Throughout this summer, I enjoyed many opportunities to experience some of the fun aspects of living in Elba. The clubs, organizations, food and the events held in the city have been great. They bring people of the community together. Of course, the Pea River is one of the town’s main attractions.

The Elba Church of Christ has a great impact on the members of its community. From worship services every Sunday to providing food for those in need, this Elba church is a great place to get involved. Every Monday and Thursday, the church hosts food banks.

On one particularly slow day at the library, my friend and library employee Alexus started talking about what there is to do for fun around the area. She explained that there are many local spots that not everyone knows about. This sparked an idea for a weekend trip to visit all of these “locals only” spots.

The other day as I was driving down the road in Henagar, a town located near Collinsville, I passed an interesting sign with faded wooden letters that invited, “Come join us for cowboy church! Every Sunday at 10.” The next Sunday, I decided to drive up the dirt road to a little barn in the country to see what this was all about.

Alabama Bicentennial Exhibit visits Elba

Members of the Elba and Coffee County communities are now enjoying the Alabama Bicentennial Traveling Exhibit presented by the Humanities Foundation. The exhibit made its debut in Coffee County July 2 at the National Security Conference Center in Elba. Since its opening, people of all ages have come to soak in the information and artifacts the exhibit presents.
