Department of World Languages
Majors and Minors

Learn the language and cultural competency skills necessary to succeed in today's global workforce and in future graduate studies.

We offer three language majors, three international trade degrees and nine minors. Our minors are open to students from any degree program at Auburn University. In collaboration with the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering, we offer the German and Engineering dual degree

The College of Liberal Arts offers two interdisciplinary options: the international studies major and the  Mediterranean studies certificate. If you want to combine your love of language study with other areas of interest, these are great options. Each of these programs uses a broad-based approach, and encourages creative problem-solving and a respect for the perspectives of others.

You may also pursue graduate studies. We offer a Master of Arts in Spanish and a Master of Hispanic Studies.

All students with previous language experience in French, German, or Spanish who wish to advance their studies in the same language must take the Foreign Language Placement Test prior to Camp War Eagle, Successfully Orienting Students, or enrollment in a language course in one of these languages.

We recommend study abroad for all students. Students must earn a C and maintain a 2.5 GPA in all major courses in order to graduate.Global Seal of Biliteracy Logo

Students who complete a major can be credentialed with a "Global Seal of Biliteracy," which certifies their competency in the language. Learn more about the Global Seal.
