Graduate students in history come from around the country to work with outstanding Auburn faculty in a range of fields. The department has a strong record of job placement both inside and outside the academy, but we pride ourselves most on the collegial and supportive atmosphere among students and faculty.
The Department of History offers two graduate programs: the Master of Arts in History and the PhD in History. Students enrolled in the master’s or the PhD program also have the opportunity to earn a graduate Certificate in Public History over the course of obtaining their degree. Information on the requirements for each of these degrees can be found in About the Program.
Prospective graduate students are also strongly encouraged to visit the Graduate Research Opportunities page, which describes how the research strengths of the department (in particular, Southern History, the History of Technology, and Public History) create possibilities for our current and prospective students, making Auburn an excellent place to pursue postgraduate work in history.
