Department of World Languages, Literatures & Cultures
Majors and Minors

Learn the language and cultural competency skills necessary to succeed in today's global workforce and in future graduate studies.

We offer three language degrees, three international trade degrees and nine minors. Our minors are open to students from any degree program at Auburn University. In collaboration with the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering, we offer the German and Engineering dual degree

We also offer two interdisciplinary options: the international studies major and the Mediterranean studies certificate. If you want to combine your love of language study with other areas of interest, these are great options. Each of these programs uses a broad-based approach, encourages creative problem-solving and builds respect for the perspectives of others.

At the graduate level, we offer a Master of Arts in Spanish and a Master of Hispanic Studies.

We also offer Arabic language courses, which are open to students from all majors.

All students with previous language experience in French, German or Spanish who wish to advance their studies in the same language must take the Foreign Language Placement Test prior to Camp War Eagle, Successfully Orienting Students or enrollment in a language course in one of these languages.

Students who complete a major can be credentialed with the "Global Seal of Biliteracy," which certifies their competency in the language. Learn more about the Global Seal.
