The ABCD Lab examines cognitively healthy older adults and individuals with neurological disorders (e.g., aphasia, dementia, Parkinson’s disease, and traumatic brain injury) to investigate two interrelated areas of research: differential diagnosis and functional intervention.
We uncover the neural and behavioral mechanisms underlying changes in speech, language, and cognition associated with aging and neurological disorders to improve differential diagnosis. Building on this knowledge, we also translate our findings into interventions designed to enhance functional communication and improve everyday functioning for individuals with speech, language, and cognitive disorders.
