Auburn University hosts another successful Journalism Day
Auburn University’s School of Communication and Journalism hosted J- Day on Tuesday, Sept. 26. Students attended panel discussions from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Harold D. Melton Student Center.
J-Day provided valuable guidance and networking to students as they learned from experienced industry professionals and Auburn alumni. Panelists included reporters, editors and publishers from local and national media organizations.
Auburn journalism alumnus and current Golden State Warriors reporter for The San Francisco Chronicle C.J. Holmes delivered the keynote speech and provided students with beneficial advice on important issues in the field.
“You can’t get to the end until you’ve been changed by the journey,” said Holmes. “My advice to Auburn journalism students would be to focus on the process, not just the end goal. Every triumph, every setback, is all part of the process into transforming you into your fully realized self. Honor the process. Go above and beyond what’s expected of you. And I promise everything will take care of itself.”
Other featured guests were from the USA Today Network, AL.com, Gray Television, War Eagle Productions and more. Topics included women in journalism and sports production, moderated by the School of Communication and Journalism faculty.
J-Day was organized by Associate Director of Journalism Justin Blankenship.
“Journalism Day is one of the best things we do as a program,” Blankenship said. “Giving students the opportunity to meet and hear from working professionals is so valuable. The news industry is always changing, and our students always enjoy getting to talk about these important issues with the journalists making a difference in their communities.”
