Description: The Speech Science, Fluency and Communication Laboratory examines aspects of communicative function that influences quality of life and social function of persons with communication disorders. Research includes projects that investigate communicative function of both children and adults with different speech and psychosocial difficulties.
Research Projects:
- Psychophysiological factors, rhythm and communicative demands in typical and disordered populations.
- Factors that influence therapeutic outcome, successful stuttering management and quality of life in persons who stutter. Topics include discrimination, the therapeutic relationship, coping, resilience, self-disclosure and counseling.
- Standardization of acoustic and aerodynamic voice assessment procedures, specifically as it relates to voice function and hormone fluctuation.
