Research in the Department of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences focuses on applied research in the areas of hearing, language and speech science across the lifespan. Current research endeavors include:
- developmental auditory perception
- use of social media in communication
- hormone profile and voice function in women
- effects of directional microphones on hearing aids
- intrinsic laryngeal skeletal muscle bioenergetics
- electrophysiological response in hearing impaired individuals with cognitive decline
Outreach efforts include hearing screenings at Special Olympics events and area nursing homes. SLHS faculty have ongoing collaborative research and outreach efforts with other Auburn University departments and colleges and actively access state-of-the-art facilities, including the Auburn University MRI Research Center.
Our faculty serve on national boards and committees, publish in high impact journals and have a successful track record of securing intra and extramural funding, including funding from the National Institutes of Health.
