Auburn graduate wins best documentary at Atlanta Film Festival
Media studies alumnus Christopher Hausler '20 is the co-producer, cinematographer and co-editor of the documentary "AMAKKI," which won Best Documentary Feature at the 2024 Atlanta Film Festival.
"AMAKKI," a lyrical observation of womanhood, takes place amidst the coffee-hills of Ethiopia's Sidama region, where Hausler and director Celia Boussebaa spent three months with the film's subjects. Later this year, the Plaza Theatre in Atlanta will show the film during a week-long run.
Since finishing his first feature, Hausler continues to explore film as a cross-cultural conduit. His current film explores ways political filmmaking produces "listening" – research he is doing as part of his master’s in visual anthropology from the University of Amsterdam.
Hausler is working toward a doctorate in visual anthropology to more closely study the intersection of film, technology and social transformation.
