Graduate Certificate in Economic Development

The Graduate Certificate in Economic Development is a 12-credit hour program within the Auburn University Master of Public Administration program. It provides a specialization in the theories and practice of economic development, primarily within the U.S and Alabama. It is an interdisciplinary graduate certificate offered by the faculty of participating departments (Public Administration, Community Planning, Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology) and is administered by the Master of Public Administration program.

Students may pursue the Graduate Certificate in Economic Development as a degree-seeking or non-degree seeking student. To earn the graduate certificate, students must complete the program’s basic course, Economic Development and Competition, three elective courses selected from an approved list, and a one-week, non-credit, intensive economic development training course sponsored by the Government and Economic Development Institute (GEDI).

Graduate Certificate in Election Administration

The Graduate Certificate in Election Administration is a 15-credit hour program within the Auburn University Master of Public Administration Program. The certificate requirements include 3 required courses and 2 electives, which are available online.

The curriculum is designed to provide graduate-level students and practicing professionals with the knowledge, skills and abilities to function effectively in election administration. The certificate can be earned while pursuing an MPA or independently. Courses cover institutional arrangements, law and policy, and critical contemporary issues facing the election administration community. Students are also required to complete an ePortfolio. Graduate Certificate in Global Public Service

The Graduate Certificate in Global Public Service is a 15-credit hour program within the Auburn University Master of Public Administration program. The certificate addresses the increasing globalization of public service and prepares students for careers in public service both inside and outside the U.S. It is an interdisciplinary graduate certificate offered by faculty in Public Administration and Philanthropy and Nonprofit Studies.

Students may pursue the Graduate Certificate in Global Public Service as degree-seeking or non-degree-seeking students. To earn the graduate certificate, students must complete three required courses and two electives.

Graduate Certificate in Nonprofit Organizations and Community Governance

The Graduate Certificate in Nonprofit Organizations and Community Governance is a 15-credit hour program within the Auburn University Master of Public Administration Program. The curriculum prepares graduate-level students and practicing professionals for management and leadership positions in nonprofit organizations, including nonprofit management, governance and resource development positions. The certificate requirements include three required courses and two electives. Students are also required to complete an ePortfolio.

The certificate can be earned while pursuing an MPA or independently. The certificate is aligned with the curricular goals of the Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs and Administration (NASPAA) and the Nonprofit Academic Centers Council (NACC).

Graduate Minor in Community Planning

The Community Planning minor is open to graduate students in any discipline. This minor affords students with interests in planning, development and urban design the opportunity to explore the discipline. Students must complete 9 credit hours of Community Planning coursework and notify the MCP program director of their interest and intentions to complete a Graduate Minor in Community Planning. Students are encouraged to contact the MCP Program Director to discuss prior to enrollment any courses that might best meet the interests and needs of the student. In addition, students must complete and submit the Graduate School Minor Form with the necessary signatures.
