Auburn College of Liberal Arts hosts study abroad program in Seville, Spain
Auburn University's public relations program will host a study abroad trip to Seville, Spain, during the summer of 2026.
The study abroad program began in 2017 and has run consistently since 2022. The public relations program runs from May 25 to June 19, 2026. The public relations program opens the study abroad program to sophomores through seniors of all majors. The program is also open to graduate students and students from other universities. The program requires a minimum GPA of 2.25.
Students can save $1,000 by applying early for the Seville study abroad program. Those who apply by Dec. 15, 2025, and commit by Dec. 22, 2025, will receive an early bird rate of $7,700, compared to the regular program fee of $8,700.
The program fee includes housing, welcome and farewell dinners, transportation from the airport to Seville, and all resources needed to complete coursework. Applications are currently open and will close on Feb. 2, 2026. Students are encouraged to apply early, as the approval process can take several weeks. The final commitment deadline is Feb. 25, 2026.
The program offers two classes, each worth three credits for a total of six credit hours. It is led by Auburn University faculty members Brigitta Brunner and Neal Reid. Ethics in PR and Professional Communication in Spain will be led by Brunner. Reid will teach PR in Spain: Sports and Travel. Both classes are electives taught in English with no pre-requisites required.
Students attend classes four days a week, with Fridays off to allow for time to travel on the weekends. In past years, students visited Seville City Hall, Andalusian Parliament, TV stations, radio stations, newspapers, UNICEF and other nonprofits. Site visits are built into class time, not during students' free weekends. An interpreter accompanies the group during site visits, activities and excursions. The program offers hands-on experience and plenty of activities to do and sights to see.
The program typically consists of a small, close-knit group of students who reside in dorms during their stay in Seville. Dorms are right next to the classrooms, which makes getting acquainted with Seville easy. Dorms feature separate bedrooms and air conditioning along with access to a workout facility and a pool. The dorms are located close to public transportation, shopping centers and grocery stores, making them an ideal home base for students.
Seville is a very walkable city that offers students a true taste of Spanish life. It features rich cultural heritage such as flamenco dancing, lively festivals and centuries-old landmarks, creating the perfect place for students to study abroad. Students have the opportunity to learn about Seville’s culture by visiting monuments, taking a cooking class and participating in other various activities.
Hope Wisdom, a current junior majoring in public relations, shared her experience studying abroad in Seville.
“The trip to Seville was absolutely life-changing. We got to learn so much about the world of PR and how it translates internationally. Being able to live two minutes away from our classroom was amazingly convenient,” Wisdom said. “All the site visits were incredible and so informative. My personal favorite was when we visited Mama Goye, which was a chocolate factory! But most of all, I made the best connections and friendships on that trip. If I could suggest anything to Auburn PR majors, it would be to study abroad in Seville!”
