Draughon Center to Host Muscogee Nation Artist Danielle Fixico
Danielle R. Fixico, instructor and artist at the College of the Muscogee Nation in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, will be in residence at the Caroline Marshall Draughon Center for the Arts & Humanities from Sept. 30–Oct.3.
In addition to class visits throughout the week, Fixico will deliver a public presentation on Wednesday, Oct. 2, at 11:30 a.m. at Pebble Hill as part of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute’s Brown Bag Series. Faculty, students and staff are invited to attend the presentation, where Fixico will discuss her artwork, which raises awareness for women’s issues in Native American communities.
Danielle R. Fixico is a Chickasaw, Muscogee and Choctaw artist from Morris, Oklahoma. She recently completed a Master of Fine Arts degree in painting at the University of Oklahoma. Her work has been featured in the Tribal College Journal, publications from the National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center, and is used for the May 5th national day of awareness for missing and murdered Indigenous women.
