CLA presents 2025 faculty and staff awards

The College of Liberal Arts honored its 2025 faculty and staff award recipients on Wednesday, April 16, during a reception held at the Ag Heritage Park Pavilion.
This year’s Promotion of Excellence in Teaching and Learning (PETL) award recipients include:

Sara Gevurtz, Assistant Professor, Department of Art & Art History

Viviane Koua, Senior Lecturer, Department of World Languages, Literatures & Cultures
Instructor Award
Crystal Tomasello, School of Communication & Journalism
Advising Award
Aubrey Holladay, Academic Advisor, Office of Student Services
Ric Smith, Senior Lecturer, School of Communication & Journalism
Recipients of competitive grants include:
Summer Research and Humanities Grant
Annie Campbell, Associate Professor, Department of Art & Art History
Ronan Chalmin, Assistant Professor, Department of World Languages, Literatures & Cultures
Xaq Frohlich, Associate Professor, Department of History
Charisse Bowen, administrative support associate for the Department of Economics, received the Staff Employee of the Year award, and Trixie Langley, academic programs administrator for the Department of Psychological Sciences, received the A&P Employee of the Year award.
This year, the college announced three faculty members as inaugural Dean's Distinguished Research Fellows. Draughon Professor of Southern History Keith Hébert, Political Science Professor John C. Morris and Lanier Endowed Professor Mary Sandage from the Department of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences, are recognized as leaders in their field and will play an active role in shaping CLA’s research landscape through a variety of responsibilities.
“Our faculty and staff members set an example every day for excellence in teaching, outreach and research,” Dean Jason Hicks said. “With these awards, we proudly elevate their important work in promoting student success and the land-grant mission of Auburn University.”
