Auburn communication professor releases two public relations books

Brigitta Brunner

Auburn University alumna and School of Communication and Journalism Professor Brigitta Brunner released her fifth and sixth books, “Public Relations Campaigns: Skill Development, Strategic Planning, and Effective Teamwork” and “Public Interest Communications: Foundations, Influence, and Importance,” in 2026.

Brunner’s fifth book, “Public Relations Campaigns: Skill Development, Strategic Planning, and Effective Teamwork,” was written with undergraduate and graduate students as the audience. The focus is on developing an effective public relations campaign, working effectively in groups, being a good professional and building soft skills.

“The book is focused on creating campaigns and targets an audience of undergraduate and graduate students who are in a campaigns class, with the book acting as a refresher on previous courses,” Brunner said. “It also gives tips on working with clients, working on a team and building soft skills.”

“Public Interest Communications: Foundation, Influence, and Importance” is Brunner’s most recently published work. It aims to explore public interest communications (PIC), which is an interdisciplinary field that pulls from public relations, marketing and sociology. The publication keeps graduate students and scholars in mind. The focus is on PIC that works toward the public good rather than just the good of one organization.

“Public interest communications is a new, emerging field in communication about which there are not yet many books written. By publishing this book, it is meant to fill that void,” Brunner said. “One of the most important aspects that differentiates PIC from other fields is that it is working toward the public good with a focus on topics such as environmentalism, health and globalism rather than advocating for the needs and wants of an individual organization.”

Auburn students have the opportunity to learn more from Brunner by enrolling in her courses. In the fall semester of 2026, Dr. Brunner will be teaching both COMM 7850: Public Relations Ethics and PRCM 2400: Foundations of Public Relations.
