Auburn University’s Master of Social Work (MSW) program has been ranked No. 1 among MSW programs in Alabama by MastersinCounseling.org in its 2027 rankings.

The ranking evaluated 15 MSW pathways at eight Alabama universities, considering factors including graduate outcomes and earnings, affordability, program breadth and concentrations, accreditation and licensure readiness. Auburn’s MSW program was recognized for its health and mental health focus, service-learning opportunities and pathways designed to meet the needs of both traditional and advanced-standing students.

“We are honored to have the quality and strength of our MSW program recognized. Our faculty and students continually strive for excellence in all that we do, and this recognition reflects their dedication, hard work, and commitment to preparing compassionate, skilled social work professionals," said Danilea Werner, director of the MSW program.

According to the ranking, Auburn’s CSWE-accredited MSW offers a 61-credit traditional pathway and a 39-credit advanced-standing pathway for graduates of CSWE-accredited BSW programs. The program emphasizes health disparities, prevention, policy and clinical practice, with opportunities for internships and service-learning.

The recognition highlights Auburn’s commitment to preparing highly skilled social workers through rigorous academic preparation and meaningful field experiences.
