Three Auburn University Health Services Administration (HADM) students earned an impressive second-place finish at the 5th annual Medical University of South Carolina Undergraduate Case Competition for Health Administration, held Nov. 13-14 in Charleston.

Team members Miller Smith, Madisyn Eddins and Matthew McMeans competed against 13 universities from across the country. Participants were challenged to develop a three-year business plan outlining how MUSC could responsibly scale its artificial intelligence initiatives. Plans were required to identify priority areas for AI deployment, justify the order of implementation and balance efficiency, patient safety and health equity.

Auburn’s team delivered a well-researched, organized proposal with clear measures for success and demonstrated strong communication and analytical skills during the Q&A portion. After a standout first-round presentation, they advanced to the final four and presented again to judges, fellow competitors and a public audience.

“Miller, Madisyn and Matthew showed incredible poise during the competition. Their ability to combine analytical rigor with clear communication reflects the very best of our program,” said Lori Redding, HADM program director. “Dr. Pickern and I are incredibly proud of how they carried themselves on a national stage.”

Assistant Professor Jay Pickern served as the team’s faculty advisor and coach.
