Will Jungblut (JRSP)
Describe your internship. Where were you and what did you do? I interned at Georgia State University over the summer. Since sports weren’t in season, I filmed and edited practice and workout videos. I worked with the football team and men’s basketball team. I would film their practices then go back to the offices and edit the videos.
How did you develop this internship? What advice do you have for others? In all honesty, I kept emailing people. I emailed the live video production director, then she gave me the email to their creative director. I made sure to keep reaching to them without being annoying. One piece of advice I have is to not be afraid to reach out to someone because they may have an opportunity for you and if you do not reach out then you will never know.
What are the most important things you learned during the internship—both inside the office and out? Take advantage of every opportunity they give you, no matter how big or small it is. For example, if they ask you to reorganize something, it may not be the most exciting thing, but it may lead to a bigger project down the road. When editing or filming, I would try new things all the time because I would find little tricks that could elevate my videos.
What advice do you have for interns during the internship experience? One piece of advice I have is talk to everyone. You never know who will help you down the road, or they might have a connection to someone that can help you. You always want to be building as many connections as possible. Take the time to get to know the people you work with. The other piece of advice would be to listen. You want to make sure you are listening and soaking everything in. They may say something that really resonates with you and changes how you look at the work. Get the most out of your internship and do every task to the best of your ability.
Is there anything else you want to add? Aside from getting the most out of your internship, make sure you have fun! Whatever your internship may be, have fun with it while doing the work! Get to know your coworkers and do not be afraid to joke around with them if appropriate.
