SCENE STUDIES | REJECTION OF PHOTOGRAPHY:

The act of translating scenes into watercolor was born from a frustration with digital photography. What's the point of taking the perfect image if you never look at that photograph again? Oppositely, I would see certain images and realize that no camera could adequately capture how I see a moment. Therefore I started studying locations through watercolor. To a certain degree I release control of what the scene HAS to look like and accept a level of imperfection. But an added benefit is that the process transforms and heightens the way I remember a time and place.
