Class Waitlists

What is waitlisting?

Waitlisting for a course at Auburn University is a system that allows you to add your name to a waitlist for a full class. When a spot becomes available, you are given the opportunity to enroll in the class based on your position on the list. There is no guarantee that you will get a seat so please focus on open course options if possible.

When should I consider waitlisting?

  • When your advisor recommends you waitlist for a course
  • When the course is full, and you need it to fulfill a requirement
  • When it is an important prerequisite to other courses in your major
  • If it fits well with your schedule and academic plan
  • If you have a strong interest in the course content

Waitlist Items to Note:

  • During fall and spring semesters, waitlists are turned off at 4:00 pm on the 3rd day of class.
  • Once the waitlists are off, students should use the registration system to find available seats.
  • If you are enrolled in a course, you cannot get on the waitlist for another section of the same course.
  • You can only waitlist for one section of a course at a time.
  • Not all courses have a waitlist.

How do I get on a waitlist?

Step 1: Open Tigerscheduler
Step 2: Find the course that you are interested in adding
Step 3: Hit the button that says “Get this schedule”
Step 4: In the error message, you will see a dropdown menu to select Waitlist.
Step 5: Hit the button that says “Do actions”

What’s next?

It's important to regularly check your status on the waitlist and ensure you meet any deadlines or requirements for enrollment if a spot becomes available.

If you want to know what “place” you have on the waitlist, check your detailed schedule in AU Access. When a seat becomes available, you will receive a notification email to your Auburn email address. It is important that you check your Auburn email regularly. You will receive ONLY 1 email notification of an available seat in a class. If you miss your chance, you can place yourself on the waitlist again, but your priority will be at the bottom, and you’ll be last in line.

Remember that waitlists are turned off at 4:00 pm on the 3rd day of class. Once the waitlists are off, students should use the registration system to find available seats.

The Department of Art & Art History uses the BANNER waitlist system for ARTS 1510, ARTS 1513, ARTS 1610, ARTS 1613, ARTS 1617. Students with questions about waitlists on all other ARTS classes should follow the process below:

Students can be place on a waitlist by sending an email to art@auburn.edu. If a seat opens in a course with a waitlist, the first person on the list is added to the class if there are no time conflicts or other scheduling issues. If the student has a time conflict or hold, the student is sent an email giving a certain amount of time to respond. If the student does not respond by the given time, the next person on the list is added or contacted. Students should NOT attend class the first day and ask professors to add them to the class. No students will be added to the waitlisted classes after the fifth class day.
