Millian Giang Pham receives SECAC Award for Excellence in Teaching
The Department of Art & Art History is proud to announce that Associate Professor Millian Giang Pham has received the SECAC Award for Excellence in Teaching, recognizing her dedication to arts education, interdisciplinary teaching and commitment to fostering creative exploration and critical inquiry among students.
“Millian is an exceptional educator whose creativity, rigor and commitment to student success have made a lasting impact on our program,” said Chuck Hemard, chair of the Department of Art and Art History. “This SECAC recognition is well-deserved and reflects the excellence she brings to the classroom and the meaningful influence she has on her students.”
A first-generation college graduate, Pham brings a distinctive perspective to both her teaching and artistic practice. Her journey from the rice fields of Vietnam to navigating life in the United States has shaped her understanding of resilience, identity and the power of creative expression.
Working across painting, printmaking, sculpture, performance and installation, Pham creates unapologetic works that challenge social and cultural expectations. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including in Canada, Pakistan, Korea, Nepal and throughout the United States. She has participated in numerous prestigious artist residencies, including I-Park Artist Enclave, Hambidge Art Center, ACRE, Santa Fe Art Institute, Virginia Center for Creative Arts, Connect International Residency, Pollinator Coop and Graves Mill Farm.
Before joining Auburn University, Pham taught at the University of Alabama, Santa Fe College and the University of Florida. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting and printmaking from the University of Tulsa in Oklahoma and a Master of Fine Arts in sculpture from the University of Florida.
