Blending passions: Bailey Croker combines music, marketing to create career path in entertainment marketing

With so many majors, programs and research opportunities offered, college students can struggle to decide which path to follow at Auburn. For senior Bailey Croker, deciding what to study wasn't a declaration of one career field, but a chance to combine several passions.

Croker majors in music performance and marketing and minors in Spanish. Through this unique combination of studies, Croker explores his interests while maintaining a wide variety of career opportunities.

"In high school I was able to try a lot of different things, whether that be music or creative marketing stuff. I also did four or five years of Spanish classes. I really enjoyed a wide array of things," said Croker. "When I applied to Auburn, I was looking to be able to continue that and keep as many doors open for career opportunities as possible."

Croker's majors have allowed him to connect with several students, professors and faculty members. His experience in the music department has left a lasting impact, ranging from building relationships with professors to scholarship opportunities.

"Through the music department, I have been fortunate enough to have scholarships coming in, which has helped with my family," said Croker. "I have a bunch of great relationships with my professors, especially my trombone professor, Dr. Matt Wood. We are very close, and it's definitely helped shape my educational experience."

In addition to his studies, the Auburn, Georgia, native is involved in the Auburn University Marching Band. Despite the challenges many students faced throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the marching band allowed Croker to find a community.

"As soon as you audition, you've got 380 friends. Having a group that you can call yourself a part of was big for me, especially starting in 2020 and not being able to have in-person classes," said Croker. "The department and the band have definitely led to friendships that will definitely be lifelong. It's been an important part of shaping my experience."

Croker advises prospective students to take advantage of tour opportunities and the many resources provided to applicants.

"Take a tour. My tour really helped Auburn stick out when I was trying to decide what school I wanted to go to. Being able to see the people and the campus was really important," said Croker. "There are also a lot of useful websites and offices at Auburn that can help you find what fits you. Do your research."

In May, Croker will travel with the Auburn University Singers as a member of the band as the group tours through Germany. In addition, Croker will strive to intersect his passions as a marketing intern at the Aspen Music Festival.
