Aviation management student receives highly competitive scholarship

Torr Coulthard

After much anticipation, the wait is finally over for Torr Coulthard.

Coulthard was nominated for an $8,000 scholarship from the International Society of Transport Aircraft Trading, or ISTAT, Foundation, and he just received word that he was awarded the highly competitive scholarship from the organization. Through their scholarship program, ISTAT Foundation supports individuals and institutions that promote the advancement of commercial aviation and humanitarianism.

"I could not be more thrilled to accept the scholarship. I'm incredibly grateful for the professors who wrote recommendations for me, the Department of Aviation for supporting my application, and the ISTAT Foundation for awarding me the scholarship. I am excited to see what I will learn from the foundation in the future, and I hope to get more involved in the organization," Coulthard said.

The Cleveland, Tennessee, native is majoring in aviation management with a double minor in French and business. He is involved in a number of campus activities such as Alpha Eta Rho (a professional aviation fraternity), International Students Organization, where he is the vice president of operations, and the French Club. He is also an employee at the Auburn University RFID Research Laboratory, where he acts as a project manager for one of their points of contact with a national retailer.

"I am overjoyed to be at Auburn where I'm immersed in a community of encouraging professors and faculty that invest in students educationally and personally," Coulthard said.

Coulthard plans to work in aviation trade, sales, or finance with a manufacturer or airline.

"Auburn University has grown me professionally and personally beyond my expectations through challenging coursework and exposure to real-world scenarios. I believe the classwork and experiences shaping me here at Auburn will continue to equip me for a future in the aviation industry."
