All Roads Lead to Auburn: Dre Gaines
Dre Gaines is a junior majoring in journalism-sports production in the College of Liberal Arts. He grew up spending time in both Riverside, California, and Houston. After serving as a military police K9 handler in the U.S. Navy for three years, Dre attended a community college in California before transferring to Auburn. He is currently the chief engineer at Eagle Eye TV and works for Auburn Athletics' War Eagle Productions as a broadcast engineer. He originally became interested in Auburn because it was "his team" every time he played the NCAA Football 07 video game. Dre spent a month studying abroad in Paris and London with Auburn Abroad this past summer.
"After the military, I decided I wanted to use my education benefits and go back to school. After a year of attending community college, and also using some of the credits I received from military training, I applied to Auburn and got accepted. It was such an exciting event because I saw Auburn as a dream school," Dre said. "Getting accepted here has been one the best moments of my life."
Auburn University is home to more than 34,000 students — the "happiest students" around. They include nearly 28,000 undergraduates, almost 60% of whom come from the state of Alabama, and another group of more than 6,000 graduate students. Whether they're from Alabama, out-of-state or a country halfway across the world, many students have interesting paths full of twists and turns before they land in "The Loveliest Village on the Plains."
