AAC Storybook Reading

We are interested in exploring how integrating AAC supports within digital storybooks can increase the communication and engagement of young children who would benefit from AAC, as well as the strategies that their communication partners use during shared storybook reading activities.

Project ImPACT AAC

In collaboration with the Marcus Autism Center, we are exploring embedding easy to use aided AAC supports within Project ImPACT, a naturalistic caregiver training program that supports caregivers of young children with developmental disabilities and communication impairments.

Embedded Literacy Supports (RERC on AAC)

As a part of the Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center on Augmentative and Alternative Communication, the AU AAC Lab leads three projects (low-tech text embedding, augmented reality text embedding, transition to literacy encoding) investigating the impact of text embedded within natural contexts on AAC users’ literacy development and communication.
