Construction of the Goodwin Hall band rehearsal addition is underway

Construction of the Goodwin Hall band rehearsal addition is underway. The 14,600-square-foot structure will include a band rehearsal hall, rooms for instrument and uniform storage, and support space. The footprint of the $7.5-million addition will occupy the parking area on West Samford Avenue between the Department of Music’s Goodwin Hall and the McWhorter School of Building Science.

“The Music Department, along with the AU Bands, are excited for the construction on a facility that will accommodate a comprehensive university band program under one roof. Having a rehearsal hall large enough to house the 380-member Auburn University Marching Band is essential for the growth and recruitment of our program,” said Dr. Richard Good, Chair of the Department of Music and Director of Bands. “The commitment to this building from the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts, Development, Alumni and the upper administration is greatly appreciated.”

All ADA-compliant parking spaces will be removed and replaced in the front parking area of Hollifield Residence Hall. The motorcycle spaces will be replaced in the front parking area of Dobbs Residence Hall.

Infrastructure and utility work will be confined to the Thanksgiving and university holiday breaks to have the less detrimental effect on students and faculty. The project is set for completion in the fall semester of 2019.
