The Oaks Agency, Auburn Public Relations Advisory Council host fall PR Day
Auburn University’s PR Advisory Council, in partnership with The Oaks Agency, hosted PR Day in the Melton Student Center on Friday, Sept. 18.
PR Day began with a presentation from keynote speaker Hannah Haller. Haller is a graduate of Appalachian State University and is currently working in talent acquisition as a program manager on the global talent acquisition team at Delta Air Lines. She gave valuable insight into what helps candidates stand out, how to navigate the recruiting process with ease and how to successfully launch a career. Haller highlighted that a degree is a starting point to future job opportunities.
The presentation was followed by an open networking session. Student attendees were able to learn more from professionals including Brette Bennett Smith, director for digital consumer analytics and insight at The Coca-Cola Company; Caleb Carden, a senior specialist in public relations for Disney Consumer Products; and Weston Ball, an executive communications specialist at Boeing and a previous firm director for The Oaks Agency.
“PR Day is a great way for students to learn about how their degree can be used in many different industries and how there isn’t one straight path for PR majors. It is a great way for students to interact with professionals who were once in their same shoes, taking the same classes,” said Tuan Huynh, chair of the Public Relations Advisory Council.
The opportunity to network at PR Day was especially beneficial for members of The Oaks Agency. Professionals shared practical advice about pursuing internships and job opportunities while giving students insight into the public relations industry. These conversations allowed members to build professional connections and gain a better understanding of potential career paths.
