The Department of Music in the College of Liberal Arts was selected as the 2024 recipient of the Departmental Award for Excellence in Education by the Auburn University Teaching Effectiveness Committee.

The department was specifically recognized for its innovation in composition technology and commercial music, as well as its success in fostering student creativity through original albums and competitions. The committee noted the program’s measurable outcomes, consistent enrollment growth and alignment with university goals. Additionally, faculty engagement and well-documented improvements demonstrated a strong commitment to excellence.

"The Department of Music is extremely honored to receive the Department Award for Excellence in Education. This recognition is a testament to the dedication, talent, and hard work of our faculty, staff, and students. We are deeply committed to fostering academic and artistic excellence and innovation in the field of music,” said Doug Rosener, department chair. “This award inspires us to continue pushing the boundaries of creativity and scholarship. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Auburn University for this prestigious acknowledgment."

The award includes $30,000 in funding over a three-year period.  The Departmental Award for Excellence in Education is awarded annually by the Biggio Center to the department that best displays excellence in teaching and learning. The Department of Music will be recognized at the annual faculty awards banquet in the fall.
