AU Music Project offering Indian Music Ensemble class

Group of people standing on a stage with indian music instruments

The Department of Music’s AU Music Project will offer a 12-week course this fall semester exploring Indian music with trained vocalists accompanied by traditional Indian instruments. The Auburn Indian Music Ensemble is comprised of Auburn University faculty, staff, students and community members who bring their interest in music and different talents to the group.

Featuring traditional Indian acoustic instruments such as the sitar, harmonium, tanpura and tabla (the Indian drums), the ensemble gets creative with the improvised aspects of Indian music, learning compositions in diverse genres ranging from classical to contemporary and folk.

The course begins Aug. 19 and will be held in the Goodwin Music Building, room 227. Registration is $200 for the semester course. No prior experience is necessary, and all ages are welcome.
