AU Chamber Choir and AHS Choral Company Perform Joint Concert

Under the direction of Dr. William Powell, the Auburn University Chamber Choir will perform at 2:30 pm on Sunday, October 4 at Auburn First Baptist Church. This will be a joint concert with Auburn High School Choral Company, conducted by Mr. Eron Smith.

The Auburn High School Choral Company is a collective group of students who are combined for one purpose: to create music. Auburn High School has a rich history in both choral and show choir literature. Selected pieces for this concert include an arrangement of the tradition spiritual “Keep Yo’ Lamps” by Rosephanye Powell; “Dies Irae” from Mozart’s Requiem; and an arrangement of The Beatles’ “Blackbird.” The AHS Choral Company is comprised of each of the vocal groups at Auburn High: Vocal Jazz, Chamber Choir, Élan, and the Varsity Singers.

The Auburn University Chamber Choir is Auburn’s highly select choir made up of approximately 50 members. Students perform a wide range of choral literature from spirituals and folk songs to representative works of choral music history. This concert’s program includes Lauridsen’s “Sure on This Shining Night;” “Rytmus” by Ivan Hrušovský; and “Lord, If I Got My Ticket” with freshman soloist Jacob Verhine.
