Allen Vizzutti to Perform with Jazz and Symphonic Winds April 23

Tickets for the Vizzutti concert will be sold beginning April 22.

Auburn University Jazz Ensemble and Symphonic Winds will perform a concert at the Auburn University Student Center Ballroom on Wednesday, April 23 at 7:30pm. The Jazz Ensemble is conducted by Dr. Michael Pendowski, and the Symphonic Winds are conducted by Dr. Rick Good.

The Department of Music is pleased to feature guest trumpeter Allen Vizzutti to perform with the ensembles.  Vizzutti studied at the Eastman School of Music, and earned the Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees, a Performer’s Certificate, a chair in the Eastman Brass Quintet faculty ensemble, and the only Artist’s Diploma ever awarded a wind player in Eastman’s 85 year history. He is currently Artist In Residency at the University of South Carolina.

This performance will be a collaboration between Mr. Vizzutti, the Auburn Bands, and local band programs. Students from Opelika High School, Auburn High School, and Lee Scott High School will perform in the concert alongside the Auburn University Symphonic Winds. Performing with one of the world’s great trumpet artists is a rare opportunity; families and friends of the high school students are encouraged to attend the concert.

The Jazz Ensemble and the Symphonic Winds have had quite a busy year with multiple concerts and performances. Each ensemble has performed four local concerts, as well as other regional events. The Jazz Ensemble performed at the Tallassee Jazz Festival in April, and the Symphonic Winds performed at the Collegiate Band Directors National Association Southeastern Regional Conference in March. Both groups have worked diligently to play with Mr. Vizzutti and are excited about this event.

Tickets are $10 for general admission, $5 for students with an ID and children, and are available beginning Tuesday, April 22 and at the door. Contact the Music Department at 844-4165 or for more information.
