He holds a PhD in History from Purdue University, an Ed.S. in Adult Education from Auburn University, and an MPH in Health Promotion and Policy from the University of Missouri. His interdisciplinary training shapes his research, teaching, and public engagement—bringing historical insight to contemporary healthcare challenges.
Dr. Schulz’s scholarship focuses on the history of medicine, oral health disparities, veterinary history, and comparative health systems. He has contributed to state-level health policy reports and published commentary in national media outlets, offering historically grounded perspectives on U.S. healthcare reform, public health, and the social determinants of health. His work is especially relevant to reporters and collaborators exploring the intersections of history, public health, and policy design.
With over a decade of teaching experience in diverse settings—from traditional classrooms to international programs—Dr. Schulz has designed and taught courses in world history, Western civilization, the history of veterinary medicine, and U.S. and global health systems. He is a recipient of the Outstanding Service Appreciation Award from the Alabama Department of Public Health for his contributions to oral health equity.
In addition to research and teaching, Dr. Schulz is an active faculty leader, serving on university governance committees and advising student organizations. He welcomes media inquiries and interdisciplinary collaborations that seek to connect historical and humanistic perspectives with pressing challenges in public health and education.
