Dr. Oguzhan Zengin joined the Department of Sociology, Anthropology & Social Work at Auburn University as a faculty member in 2026. Prior to joining Auburn, he served as Professor of Social Work at Karabük University in Türkiye, where he also served as Department Chair. He earned his BSW, MSW, and PhD in Social Work from Hacettepe University, home to Türkiye's first school of social work.
Dr. Zengin's research focuses on mental health, secondary traumatic stress, solution focused brief therapy, migration, and social work education. His recent work has examined the experiences of social workers responding to the 2023 Türkiye-Syria earthquake, as well as the mental health and psychosocial needs of refugees and asylum seekers. His scholarship has been published in international peer-reviewed journals, including The British Journal of Social Work, Social Work Education, and Journal of Human Rights and Social Work, and he has collaborated with researchers across multiple countries. He is committed to advancing evidence-based social work practice and preparing future social workers through research-informed teaching and community engagement.
