Originally from Montgomery, Alabama, Nick Long joined Auburn University in April 2025 as a NAGPRA Assistant. Long holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with a concentration in Anthropology from Auburn University at Montgomery and a Master of Arts in Cultural Heritage Studies from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
During their time at AUM, Long participated in different archaeological surveys across the Southeast, worked with the archaeological collection at AUM, and was a student assistant collections manager at the Alabama Department of Archives and History which is where they first began working with NAGPRA.
Once they graduated from AUM, they then attended UAB where they continued their academic career through the Cultural Heritage studies program, where they were able to work with UAB’s archaeology collection, and complete a practicum at Crow Canyon Archaeological Center in Colorado, in the summer of 2023. Long plans to attend graduate school in the future to earn a PhD in Anthropology.
