About Me

Maria Kuznetsova was born in Kiev, Ukraine, and moved to the United States as a child. Her debut novel, a comedic coming-of-age story about a feisty immigrant, Oksana, Behave! was published by Spiegel & Grau/Random House in 2019. It was a Barnes & Noble Discover Pick and a best spring read of Oprah Magazine, Pop Sugar, InStyle, and the Wall Street Journal. Her second novel, a historical and humorous meditation on generational divides, legacy, and loss called Something Unbelievable, will be published by Random House in April 2021. Her fiction and non-fiction also appears or is forthcoming in McSweeney's Quarterly Concern, The Southern Review, Guernica, The Threepenny Review, Crazyhorse, Slate Magazine, and elsewhere.

She received a BA in English from Duke University, an MA in English and fiction writing from UC Davis, and an MFA in creative writing from the Iowa Writers' Workshop. She is also a fiction editor at The Bare Life Review, a journal of immigrant and refugee literature. She lives in Auburn with her husband and daughter.
