Kevin Renz Ambrocio, PhD, CCC-SLP, CBIS, is an Assistant Professor and upper aerodigestive scientist who directs GOLPS (Group for OrganismaL Physiology of Swallowing) at Auburn University. His research focuses primarily on the integrated physiological mechanisms underlying upper aerodigestive performance and how these systems respond to changes in neuromuscular demands across healthy adults and individuals with neuromuscular disorders, particularly inclusion body myositis and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. A complementary line of research examines how these physiological mechanisms relate to systemic, clinical, and functional outcomes. Ultimately, his goal is to translate these physiological insights into early, targeted, and personalized interventions. Kevin applies a multimodal, cross-system approach to his research. His background as a medical speech-language pathologist informs his clinically grounded research program, which has been supported by the National Institutes of Health, the ASHFoundation, and internal funding mechanisms.
