About Me

Joe Pierce is a lecturer in Auburn University's School of Aviation, where he teaches aviation management courses including Introduction to Aviation, Air Transport Industry Development,  Applied Analysis in Aviation, Air Transport Planning, and Global Air Transportation Management.

An Auburn graduate, Joe returned to the Plains after nearly a decade working in airline operations and technology. He began his career at ExpressJet Airlines in crew scheduling, where he experienced firsthand the challenges of a fast-moving airline operation and the impact operational decisions can have across an entire network.

Joe later joined Delta Air Lines, serving in several crew operations roles before moving into a position that connected Flight Operations and Information Technology. During his time at Delta, he worked on system enhancements, process improvements, and projects related to the Pilot Working Agreement. He also supported the airline through operational disruptions ranging from severe weather events to other large-scale challenges.

His industry experience plays a major role in his teaching. Joe enjoys helping students connect classroom concepts to real-world aviation operations and sharing practical lessons from his time in the airline industry. He is particularly passionate about helping students develop the critical thinking, adaptability, and problem-solving skills needed for successful careers in aviation.

In addition to teaching, Joe serves as the faculty advisor for Latin Professionals in Aerospace, supporting students as they develop professionally and build leadership experience.

Joe earned a Bachelor of Science in Aviation Management from Auburn University and an MBA from the University of Mississippi.

Outside the classroom, Joe enjoys spending time with his wife, Bonnie, and their three sons, including a set of twins. In his free time, he enjoys gaming, playing golf, and cheering on Arsenal and Auburn athletics.
