About Me
Jay Pickern is an Assistant Professor of Health Services Administration at Auburn University. Dr. Pickern is a seasoned educator and manager with extensive experience in healthcare and business environments including retail pharmacy, hospital pharmacy, clinical research, and pharmacy benefit management. He has also taught at the post-secondary level in health administration and business management programs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. He has a Doctor of Business Administration degree from Wilmington University, an M.S. in Health Administration from Austin Peay State University, and a B.S.Ed. in Business Education from Valdosta State University. As a former department manager for a major US health insurance organization, he draws on his industry experience to enhance classroom instruction.
Dr. Pickern currently teaches courses in health insurance and reimbursement, as well as health information systems. His teaching expertise includes a wide variety of health administration and general management topics, which also include healthcare leadership and management, organizational behavior, healthcare human resources, business communications, and performance management.
