About Me

Hilary Joyce has been a faculty member with the Social Work Program since 2013. She teaches Introduction to Social Work, History of Social Welfare, Child Welfare, and Social Work Methods I. Joyce’s research interests include youth development, adolescent mental health, school climate, school social work, and school-based and school-linked mental health services. She has published her research in journals such as Social Work in Mental Health, Children and Youth Services Review, Children & Schools, and Families in Society: The Journal of Contemporary Social Work. She also co-authored two chapters in the second edition of the School Services Sourcebook, an important resource for school social work practice. Joyce has presented at numerous national conferences including the Annual Conference of the Society for Social Work and Research (SSWR) and the Annual Conference on Advancing School Mental Health. She has seven years practice experience working as a medical social worker at Dayton Children’s Medical Center in Dayton, Ohio. She is a member of the Mental Health Education Integration Consortium (MHEDIC), a national consortium of interdisciplinary leaders in the field of school mental health focused on promoting collaboration and workforce preparation for school mental health practitioners. Joyce is on the editorial board for the National Association of Social Workers Press' journal Children & Schools. She also serves on the Auburn University Women’s Center Advisory Board and is is a member of the Twin Cedars Child Advocacy Center Board of Directors.
