Dr. Felicia Tuggle is a social work educator and development practitioner with over 19 years of experience. She has worked with civil society organizations and universities in Ghana, Liberia, Trinidad and Tobago, Rwanda, and South Africa. Her publicly engaged scholarship focuses on the role social work education and practice play in fostering partnerships with local and global organizations to advance human rights and facilitate sustainable development. Her work engages communities and organizations in addressing local development needs using inclusive and participatory approaches to mobilize cross-sectoral stakeholders, amplify community voice, and center indigenous knowledge. Dr. Tuggle uses the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a framework for her teaching, research, and service. Her engaged scholarship has been published in top-tier journals and reflects social work’s legacy of social and community development.
As a social work educator, researcher and practitioner, Dr. Tuggle frequently consults with academic institutions and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) domestically and internationally around internationalizing social work education and addressing sustainable development goals (SDGs). She values the importance of bridging the gaps between research and practice to improve the health and education of adolescents and young adults and is committed to using her knowledge, skills, and social capital to assist public and private agencies build the organizational and programmatic capacity necessary to design, implement, and evaluate high quality sustainable programs.
Dr. Tuggle is an active member of the International Association of Schools of Social Work (IASSW) and serves as a member of the organization’s capacity-building committee. She is also Commissioner on the CSWE Global Commission on Social Work Education and serves as the Chair of the commissions’ Partners in International Education (PIE) Awards committee.
