David Tidwell served for 30 years as a naval officer. After receiving his commission from the Auburn University Navy ROTC program, he completed flight training and was winged as a Naval Flight Officer. Throughout his career he achieved more than 2,400 flight hours and 571 arrested landings in the S-3B Viking and E-2C Hawkeye carrier-based aircraft. His flight experience includes mission commander, standardization and instrument flight evaluator qualifications. He commanded a Hawkeye squadron and an overseas U.S. Navy base with port and airfield facilities. Captain Tidwell’s operations management experience includes department head for an aircraft carrier and Viking squadron and division chief in the Joint Staff training directorate. Most recently, he served as an instructor and deputy department chair at the United States Air Force’s Air War College, teaching graduate-level courses in national security studies. Captain Tidwell holds a bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering from Auburn University and a master’s degree in military operational art and science from the Air University. His teaching and research interests include aviation operations and maintenance management.
