Brian Osborne enjoys working as music director, vocal coach of opera and musical theatre, pianist, singer, actor and model. As music director he has worked with a variety of professional companies, summer programs and universities. Previous teaching experience includes work with Georgia State University, Reinhardt University, Oklahoma City University and The University of Mississippi.
He music directs regularly at various regional theatre companies in the Atlanta area, including The Alliance Theatre, Woodstock Arts, Marietta Theatre Company, The Strand Theatre and Rome Little Theatre. Osborne was also the principal vocal coach and back-up vocalist in 2022 for Doom Patrol, an HBOMax series starring actor Brendan Fraser. Osborne also maintains an active private vocal coaching studio in Atlanta.
He is very passionate about training young performers and works every summer with a variety of music festivals, including Academy Street Players, “Si parla, si canta” in Arona, Italy, Stagedoor Manor, Harrower Opera Workshop, Red River Lyric Opera, and Vanguard Musical Theatre Camp. Osborne was also the founding director of the annual Reinhardt University Musical Theatre Intensive for high school students. He presents regularly at theatre conferences, including workshops titled “Finding your 1, 2, 3,” “Musical Device for the Singing Actor” and “Character Choices from Musical Device. Beyond the Words!” with organizations like South Eastern Theatre Conference and Georgia Thespian Conference.
Osborne has appeared as pianist alongside an array of singers from a variety of musical genres. Some special moments have included performances with the late great Rebecca Luker, Tamar Greene from the cast of Broadway’s Hamilton, and Metropolitan Opera singers Kathryn Lewek and Indra Thomas.
In addition, Osborne enjoys appearing on-stage and has performed “Miles Gloriosus” in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, “Jud Fry” in Oklahoma, and “Sky Masterson” in Guys and Dolls, to name a few. He also appears as a fashion model and in various commercial work in Atlanta.
Osborne was the recipient of the Outstanding Music Direction award for She Loves Me and Sweeney Todd from KCACTF, the International Arts Associate award from Sigma Alpha Iota music fraternity, and the Faculty Artistic Award at Reinhardt University.
Osborne has music directed a plethora of musical theatre styles, genres, revues, cabarets and opera. Highlights include Head Over Heels, The Rocky Horror Show, Rent, Lucky Stiff, Anything Goes, Company, The Sound of Music, She Loves Me, Songs for a New World, Newsies, The Secret Garden, Pippin, A Little Night Music, Brigadoon, Singin’ in the Rain, Sweeney Todd, Cabaret, and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, just a few of the more than 85 productions under his direction.
Osborne has also conceived, produced and conducted a variety of timely, theme-based cabarets. Some of these include “A Stephen Sondheim Cabaret,” “Unmasking the outcast,” “What’s new on Broadway,” “American Cabaret” at the prestigious Vianden Festival in Vianden, Luxembourg and “Songs of Our Homeland” at “Si parla, si canta,” in Urbania, Italy.
Early training included apprentice work with Ash Lawn Highland Opera, Utah Festival Opera, Des Moines Metro Opera, Opera North, and Opera in the Ozarks, where he eventually became principal coach. Osborne holds a bachelor's degree in vocal performance from the University of Georgia, a master's in vocal performance from Florida State University and a second master's from the University of Tennessee in collaborative piano.
