About Me

Jeff Shearer received his bachelor's degree in broadcast news and a minor in history from the University of Colorado in 1988. In his 28th season covering Auburn, Shearer writes for Auburn Athletics' website. He serves as a communications assistant and fills in as a play-by-play announcer for Auburn events on the SEC Network. Shearer came to Auburn after serving as the sports director at WSFA-TV in Montgomery, Ala. He spent nearly 25 years at the NBC affiliate, anchoring the 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. newscasts while covering local high schools and colleges, including Auburn. In 2005, he was voted Alabama's Sportscaster of the Year by his peers. Shearer began his sportscasting career at KDUH in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, then worked at KSL-TV in Salt Lake City, Utah. A native of Ashland, Ohio, Shearer and his wife, Rhonda, have two daughters, Sara Schiller, an Auburn graduate, and Meagan, a current Auburn student. Their son-in-law, Chris Schiller, is also an Auburn graduate.

At Auburn, Shearer has taught sports reporting, sports media relations, news writing and journalism fundamentals. Beginning in 2005, he taught for a decade at Troy University's School of Journalism.
