Auburn University Student to Spend Summer in Linden
Auburn University Living Democracy Fellow Amy Hudson started her 10 weeks of living and learning in Linden this summer.
Hudson, a biomedical science, pre/med student at Auburn, will be working with community partners Kathryn Friday, Marengo County Extension coordinator, and Brenda Tuck, executive director of Marengo County Economic Development.
“Linden is very fortunate to be a participant in this program and to have these students bring new ideas and fresh energy with them,” Tuck said.
Hudson’s summer plans include coordinating a summer program for Linden High School and Marengo Academy students that focuses on community development and leadership.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to be in Linden. I hope the youth council I lead will bring about pride in the community and growth in each of the students’ lives,” Hudson said.
Hudson, a native of Gurley, Alabama, is a graduate of Madison County High School. She is the daughter of Gary and Wendy Hudson. She is the third Living Democracy student to spend a summer in Linden, following Blake Evans in 2012, Kaleb Kirkpatrick in 2013 and Cristiana Shipma in 2014.
Friday said, “We are excited to have a Living Democracy student here again this summer. This program has enriched our community.”
Living Democracy is a program of Auburn University’s College of Liberal Arts. Students serve as Jean O'Connor Snyder Interns with the David Mathews Center for Civic Life, a program jointly administered by the University of Alabama's New College.
