Auburn University Student Begins Work in Elba
Auburn University Living Democracy Fellow Caroline Allen started her summer in Elba working with local nonprofit Restoration 154 on a variety of community projects.
Allen, a social work major, said she hopes to engage local youth to focus on issues in the community. She said, “I’m very excited to get to know the city and the people of Elba. There are so many interesting things going, and I can’t wait to get involved.”
Her primary partners are Restoration 154’s Justin Maddox, Philip Box and Laurie Chapman. She will work with them on projects, such as the Giving Garden and Elba Theatre restoration, during her 10 weeks in Elba.
Restoration 154’s Chapman said, “We love her personality, ideas and apparent strong work ethic and think she will be a great fit for our community.” She added, “The benefits these Auburn students have brought to our community have been long-lasting and meaningful.”
Allen, from Carrollton, Georgia, is a graduate of Central High School. She is the fourth Living Democracy student to spend the summer Elba, following Alexis Sankey, Sierra Lehnhoff and Jelani Moore.
