About

For over a decade, Living Democracy paired students and citizens in Alabama communities for a living-learning experience in community and civic engagement. The students' backgrounds, interests, majors, and skills were as diverse as the communities where they resided. Their journeys were adventures in developing relationships, understanding a community's hopes and dreams, and discovering what makes democracy work as it should.

Living Democracy was a collaboration with communities and the David Mathews Center for Civic Life. Living Democracy students served as Jean O'Connor Snyder Interns with the Mathews Center.
