African American and Africana Studies

Born from the Black Studies Movement of the 1960s, African American and Africana Studies today reflects a global engagement with diasporic blackness and encompasses the critical study of Black life within the Americas, Africa, the Caribbean and Europe. We equip you with a complex understanding of domestic and transnational blackness through courses on Black aesthetics, history, culture and politics.

We provide an interdisciplinary approach to the study of the history, literature, culture and lived experiences of Black people in Africa and the African diaspora.
