Application Requirements
We are seeking an interdisciplinary and diverse group of students from the social sciences, natural sciences, human sciences, arts, humanities, business, design and engineering to become Gulf Scholars. Students must be passionate about working in an interdisciplinary environment, contributing to a dynamic and engaging peer cohort group, and interested in Gulf sustainability issues in their field. Students must have at least two years left at Auburn to complete the program. Students from any major are welcome and encouraged to apply.
Application Process
Applications to become a Gulf Scholar will open on November 3, 2023, and are due February 21, 2024. Students will be notified by February 29, 2024.

Gulf Scholars Program at Southern Union State Community College
The Auburn Gulf Scholars Program is working with Southern Union to encourage qualified and motivated SUSCC students to undertake Gulf research, expose them to real-world issues and concerns occurring in the Gulf region of our state, and facilitate eventual matriculation to the GSP at Auburn. We are seeking motivated and interested students in the Path to the Plains Program to become Gulf Scholars. SUSCC students will take an independent study course that will count as an elective in the Auburn Gulf Scholars Program and a required core class for transferring to Auburn. SUSCC students will receive financial support at Auburn ($2,500), plus tuition and additional financial support at SUSCC.
Students will work with a faculty member at SUSCC and a relevant community partner in the Alabama Gulf region and complete a major research project that explores a question involving the conservation and management of natural resources with a faculty member. The course will be taught as an independent study class, allowing it to count for core credit to transfer to Auburn. The independent study class will facilitate one-on-one instruction and mentorship with the faculty member teaching the class, preparing students for advanced study of Gulf issues.
