My research primarily focuses on men’s engagements with feminist, women’s rights, and gender justice activism. I take an intersectional, critical perspective, which leads me to consider the impacts of race, sexuality, gender identity, class, religion, etc., and connect my research to activism and social change work. Related fields of expertise include men and masculinities, sexual and relationship violence, social movements, and feminist theory.

Some Men: Feminist Allies and the Movement to End Violence Against Women, written with Michael A. Messner and Max Greenberg, was published by Oxford University Press in 2015. It won the Pacific Sociological Association’s Distinguished Scholarship Award, and has been positively reviewed in the American Journal of Sociology (Dragiewicz), Contemporary Sociology (Bridges), Gender & Society (Kitchen), Men and Masculinities (Leek), Journal of Sociology & Social Welfare (Mullin).
