Welcome to the Auburn University Department of Theatre and Dance!

All applications will open on August 1st

Welcome to the Auburn University Department of Theatre and Dance Scholarship Day application page! To get you started, here are the answers to some of the questions you may have:

Is this separate from my Auburn University Application?

Yes!

If you are interested in scholarship support from Auburn, you must also register through the AUSOM scholarship portal - http://www.auburn.edu/scholarship/ausom/index.php

You can register through AUSOM once you have received your acceptance from the university. Please, make sure you apply to the university as early as possible, to ensure you get into AUSOM and have the greatest chance for college and university-level scholarships.

We offer scholarships at the department level, but the larger amounts are awarded through AUSOM at the level of the College of Liberal Arts and the university.

For more information about the College of Liberal Arts scholarships, contact the program coordinator at (334) 844-2126. Additional information about university-level scholarships and Auburn’s Scholarship Opportunity Manager is available on the AUSOM website or by calling (334) 844-7570.

What theatre degree programs does Auburn offer?

We offer the Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Theatre as well as Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Music Theatre, Performance, Theatre Design and Technology, and Management.

How do I get in?

With the exception of the BFA music theatre program, students are not required to audition to declare a theatre major. If you are interested in majoring in theatre in the BA degree program, welcome! If you are interested in majoring in the BFA performance, design & technology, or management degree programs, auditions and portfolio presentations are conducted in the spring semester of your sophomore year.

If you are interested in majoring in the BFA music theatre program you will audition for admission on Saturday, November 4, 2023, or via video submission. Your music theatre admission audition will also serve as your audition for departmental scholarship consideration.

I’m not interested in majoring in music theatre, but I’m very interested in theatre scholarships for majors in other theatre degree tracks. How do I apply?

You’re in the right place! If you are interested in the BA or any BFA program other than Music Theatre, you can apply for departmental assistance through your Scholarship Day audition or portfolio review on Saturday, November 4, 2023. Scholarship Day auditions provide an opportunity to meet faculty and current students, discuss financial aid opportunities, take a campus and theatre facilities tour and get a first-hand “feel” for theatre at Auburn. Students interested primarily in performance will prepare an audition; prospective design and management students provide a portfolio or sample promptbook for review. All prospective students will have the chance to meet the faculty for a short interview.

Do I have to declare theatre as my major to be considered for a theatre scholarship?

Yes. Only those intending on MAJORING in one of our 5 Theatre majors can receive departmental scholarship awards.

I'm a transfer student coming in during my sophomore or junior year. May I audition for the BFA in Music Theatre?

Yes. If you are transferring to Auburn as a sophomore or junior you may audition for the BFA in Performance or submit a portfolio or stage management promptbook for entrance into the BFA in Design/Technology or Management on Saturday, November 4, 2023. The audition or portfolio presentation is for admission into the program and for scholarship consideration.

I would like to audition for the BFA Music Theatre Program. What do I need to prepare?

Prescreen materials are required for students seeking entrance to the Music Theatre BFA. For audition instructions and access to the application click “Music Theatre Prescreen and Scholarship Consideration” and “Select Program” from the “Start an Application” drop-down box on the left side of your screen and click on "BFA Music Theatre.” The deadline for Music Theatre applications is Friday, October 27, 2023.

I am not auditioning for the BFA Music Theatre BFA. What is my deadline?

All other applications should also be submitted by Friday, October 27, 2023.
