Department of Psychological Sciences
Statement on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

The Applied Behavior Analysis program in the Department of Psychological Sciences at Auburn University values and respects the contributions of students, staff, and faculty from diverse race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender expression or gender identity, age, nationality, disability, religious or spiritual beliefs, socioeconomic class, and political beliefs. We strive to create a learning environment that supports a diversity of thoughts, perspectives, and experiences, and that honors your identities.

Acknowledging the history and effects of systemic racism and discrimination, our program firmly stands for social justice for all people, particularly for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color, as well as members of other oppressed groups. As a program, we are committed to:

1. Upholding policies and ethical standards applicable to our program, including the Auburn University AA/EEO Policies and Procedures and BACB Ethics Code for Behavior Analysts

2. Collaborating with the Office of Accessibility, the Title IX Office, the Office of Inclusion and Diversity, and other Auburn University units and programs to best meet the needs of our students

3. Providing all faculty and graduate students access to Safe Zone training and cultural responsiveness training materials

4. Requiring aspiring graduate students to submit a diversity statement addressing their contributions to diversity through community involvement, scholarly work, and/or professional activities

5. Incorporating anti-racism and cultural responsiveness training in relevant courses and providing access to professional development online educational resources for faculty and staff

Cultural humility and dismantling racism and discrimination is an ongoing process, but one that is important for the work of applied behavior analysts. Our field has long recognized the role of antecedent stimuli in evoking behaviors. This statement is but one of many antecedent strategies intended to support a culture of respect, inclusion, and continual commitment to improvement within our program.
